Merry Christmas ✌️

I’m stuck in this spot since my cat-unit appears to broken.

Aren’t these supposed to hiss at you from the corner? It appears cold.

Christmas went pretty well. I got to work from home on Christmas Eve, and so Ro got to stay home with me.  I managed to get everything done in a few hours while Ro was watching Transformers on Netflix.  When I ran out of stuff to do, we started watching Olive the Other Reindeer on YouTube.  It’s a made-for-tv show by the creator of the Simpsons and was probably our favorite Christmas movie of the day.  Later, we had pizza on B’s grandpa’s front porch with B’s mom. Yes, it was cold. Ro decided he wasn’t hungry and spent most of the time moping since B’s mom brought out the wrapped presents but wouldn’t let him open them until after everyone was done eating. Then B’s grandpa brought out the presents from B’s aunt, too. Ro got a Launch and Defend remote control Batmobile, Lego set, and Batman lunchbox. B got a Bob Ross Christmas ornament and Mr. Rogers socks.

I got a purse.

On the way home, Ro asked what he was going to get for Christmas. I made the mistake of suggesting he would get coal. It ruined the rest of his Christmas lights tour as we cruised down the streets of the adjacent hoity-toity neighborhood adjacent to ours. When we got home, I had to explain to Ro that I already bought all the coal and showed him all the bags I bought last year during a Memorial Day sale.  Santa wasn’t going to have any left to give him. If Santa did manage to find some somewhere, I would trade him a toy for it and we would have a good barbecue.  I think he felt a bit better. We watched A Charlie Brown Christmas, got the milk and cookies ready, and then went to bed. As soon as Ro was asleep, I gave the milk to B to drink so it wouldn't go bad overnight and kill him if he tried to drink it the next morning.  We also set out Ro’s presents we had hidden on top of the dryer.

I woke up early on Christmas morning to set up the rest. B and I ate the cookies.  I set out another present we had forgotten about since we never opened the package. I wrote Ro’s Santa letter.

I tried to disguise my handwriting and make it more legible by separating the letters, but I think B had to read it to Ro anyways.

I went back to sleep. Ro woke up later and tried to wake me up but failed. I thought I had missed him unwrapping the presents and was happy to find out I hadn’t. B convinced Ro to play with his new legos instead until I finally woke up at 9am. Ro got his blue headphones, a transforming remote control Batmobile, AR dinosaur globe, and a Heatwave Transformer action figure. B got dress socks that Ro and I had asked Santa to give him. I didn’t have to unwrap anything for myself since my stuff was still at the post office.  Ro talked briefly with Mom on video chat.  B cooked, relaxed, and ran a few errands for the rest of the day while Ro, Boose, and I took his Batmobile to the park so he could practice driving it. We had two false starts. One when we thought the batteries that came with the Batmobile were dying. The second when he had an accident because he was too excited to use the bathroom before we left.  He found driving frustrating at first but got better.  We mainly stayed under the gazebo to drive the toy since it sprinkled for a little bit and we were worried about the car getting ruined.  We eventually made it back home where B had Costco tamales ready for us.  B and I ate ours quickly, but Ro still wasn’t very hungry, and Boose managed to steal his for a good ending to his Christmas. That night, Ro was sad the day was over so soon. I told him he would have two more days of the weekend to play with his toys.

The next morning, I drove down to the blood bank to make a donation. When I told Ro my plans the night before, he was concerned they would take too much blood.  I told him it would be okay and my plans would give him a lot of time to play with his toys. He felt better with my explanation.  While filling the car with gas at Costco, I saw someone leaving the store with Bounty paper towels. I had missed out on buying some for Sharon a few weeks before, and there was an open car space as close to the store as you could get.  I took it as a sign that it could be a quick trip, and it was.  I drove to the post office afterwards. There was no line to pick up the rest of our Christmas gifts.

Knitting as a good cover. Thanks, Santa.

I drove the paper towels to Sharon, and we had a chance to talk for a bit. She gave us some prime rib and gravy for lunch since we couldn’t have a full dinner the way we would on a normal year. We relaxed for the rest of the day. Ro and I got a quick video chat in with Aunt Jane and Aunt Jean. We ordered Indian food for dinner. In order to eat in peace, we watched Soul on Disney+.  B says it was okay, but Ro and I loved it. There is a scene where an Asian girl rocks a trombone. 😁

I hope your Christmas was good, too.  I love you and miss you.

I hope you’ve had a Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas! Ours was pretty good.  Quick backtrack to Thanksgiving: We just did a small early dinner in Gramma Wanda’s backyard. It was warn and we ended up taking jackets off as well as ate inside. Torstein came with us to hang out with Sophie to be weirdo’s together. Ro also lost both of his front teeth and another bottom tooth that week. On a few Saturdays around that time, Ro went to a sort of Nasa coding camp at Fresno State since we had a break from golf. He ended being sick for two out of the three sessions, but he enjoyed the content. I also got a free community library card at the Fresno State library (job perk) and spent a lot of time knitting at Collect Coffee. Ro said he didn’t like spending a lot of time away from home though. He’s registered for baseball in spring, will be doing golf all year, and planning on tennis in summer (no refunds on that one for rain though the other two are flexible/flat rate).  Ro had a winter show at his school. The cafeteri...

Streator, Illinois

I had been trying to plan a trip to visit my Aunt Jane and my Aunt Jean in Illinois for awhile.  Eventually, I heard that one of them was having dizzy spells and other health problems.  I figured that now would be better than later to go -- even if it was in the middle of summer time.  Ro will be starting pre-kindergarten in a few weeks and airplane tickets were just going to get more expensive until next February.   Day 1: We left Fresno Saturday just before noon.  Ro was raring to go on the trip until he realized how long it was going to be.  It didn't hit him until we got on the ramp to go from 99N to 152W.  Then he needed to use the bathroom and we tried to use a side road to convince Ro to go to the bathroom next to the road.  He's told us jubilantly before that one of the grandmas let him pee on a tree, but he just couldn't pee or defecate on the ground next to the car.  We packed him back into the car until we exited...

March Update

B and I got our second Pfizer shots recently.  It's hard to tell if we're having side effects or psychosomatic symptoms.  After my first shot, I had some shortness of breath overnight, I was tired, I had bad allergies, my arm was super sore and I had weird upper back pain the next day.  After the second, I made sure to go running and that seemed to take care of the symptoms for the first night and next day.  I made the mistake of having a drink, thinking I was in the clear, but then I had random cold sweats and waves of pain in my head and back overnight with weird dreams about the pain and how it wouldn't go away until I got more shots.  Eventually, everything went away as if nothing ever happened.  B got his second shot last Friday and felt a bit of tiredness, but he went on a forty-five mile bike ride this morning -- the first group ride his bike gang has gone on since COVID started shutting things down -- and he seems fine now.  He's more worried a...
