I hope you’ve had a Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas! Ours was pretty good.

Quick backtrack to Thanksgiving: We just did a small early dinner in Gramma Wanda’s backyard. It was warn and we ended up taking jackets off as well as ate inside. Torstein came with us to hang out with Sophie to be weirdo’s together. Ro also lost both of his front teeth and another bottom tooth that week.

On a few Saturdays around that time, Ro went to a sort of Nasa coding camp at Fresno State since we had a break from golf. He ended being sick for two out of the three sessions, but he enjoyed the content. I also got a free community library card at the Fresno State library (job perk) and spent a lot of time knitting at Collect Coffee. Ro said he didn’t like spending a lot of time away from home though. He’s registered for baseball in spring, will be doing golf all year, and planning on tennis in summer (no refunds on that one for rain though the other two are flexible/flat rate).

Ro had a winter show at his school. The cafeteria was absolutely packed tough only four first grade classes participated. Ro was hoping they would let them hold the lyrics during the show, but they didn’t. The singing was pretty sparse during the verses and loud (screaming) during the refrains. He had fun though.

We had our band winter concert somewhere between there. There was a neat song blending the Ukrainian bell carol and “House of the Rising Sun.” It had many sforzandos that made being a trombonist worthwhile. Ro really enjoyed the Sun Chips decorating the trees — one of the songs was “Deck the Halls with Chips and Salsa,” which was also fun though repetitive. He says his favorite was a lyrical arrangement of “La Cucaracha” that had followed “Deck the Halls.” The whole recording can be found on somewhere on YouTube.

Ro’s teeth were halfway in by the time Christmas rolled around. We spent Christmas Eve dinner at PF Chang’s then watching a slideshow for B’s family at Gramma Wanda’s. Ro made it to bed in time for Santa to fill a stocking the next day with a tennis racket, baseball sunglasses, junior tennis balls, and a Terry’s chocolate orange. Other gifts he got were a penguin adoption kit from Antarctica, solar rover kit, Streatoropoly, and a transforming remote control car.

I had just managed to finish knitting the stocking in time, too.

We went to Sharon’s for dinner later with her niece that evening. Ro stuffed himself with cheese and crackers before dinner. Sharon mentioned that her Christmas card bounced back, and she says hi.

Hope everything has been going well for you. We’ve been dealing with colds off and on, but nothing too serious.

I love you and miss you.

End of June and Beginning of July

The car radio has been working fine. But then B accidentally knocked my mounted microphone behind the dashboard with the sun shade. The Jeep was due for an oil change so I took time yesterday morning to do the oil change, and then take apart the center panel to fish everything back where it needs to be. I remounted the microphone in a new spot where it may be less affected, but maybe I'll try to get better mounting tape to keep it in place. Anna said the sound wasn't affected by it being in the dash, but I feel like it works better when it's out.  B and I made it out for a trip at the end of June to see Shakira in San Francisco. She played a really good show. There were four little girls that were sitting behind us who knew the words to many of her Spanish songs and it was adorable to have that chorus behind us. She had quite a few props like a giant inflatable wolf for her encore. I realized that I know more of her music in Spanish than English, but of course she sang anyt...

May Update

It's June 1st! So it's been awhile. I feel like this month has passed by, but I don't remember what we did. I think I mentioned Bookfest 2025 in my last post so I'll look through my calendar and figure out what I did since then.  The weather has been pretty decent all month up until last week after Memorial Day weekend. I set up a card table in the garage one day to be able to work from home and let Ro play with his remote control batmobile and skateboard across the street. Tor was out with us and mostly stuck around.    Work from home setup complete with desk muppet B and Ro have been checking out churches because Ro has starting wondering what religions are out there. B hasn't been making me go to the Christian ones (or any of them really...because I don't want to). Ro seems to have this idea that the Christian ones don't have as much of an emphasis of the "Do this or you'll go to Hell" aspect. He's in for a rude awakening. Mom has plans...

Ro's Birthday

We have a ten-year-old! He was excited for his birthday and wanted a laid back last day of being nine. So, I picked him up early for a doctor's appointment, and got him a flu shot. He then was hungry for chicken, so we went to one of his favorite restaurants, Smash Bros Bistro for a chicken sandwich. The owner was nice and changed the tv channel to videos of airshows on YouTube while he ate. We watched Modern Family after we got home and went to bed at a decent hour. On his actual birthday, he woke up with B at 5am. I had been up late wrapping the present I bought and had been hiding in my car. Luckily, he's not into keeping track of what I keep in the trunk area of the Jeep or he would have found the RC airplane sooner. He waited until I woke up at 9am to open that and his other presents and loved that one the most. He wanted to take it out right away, but I looked at the box and saw a note that we should check local ordinances. So, I checked and found a local RC airplane clu...
