March Update

B and I got our second Pfizer shots recently.  It's hard to tell if we're having side effects or psychosomatic symptoms.  After my first shot, I had some shortness of breath overnight, I was tired, I had bad allergies, my arm was super sore and I had weird upper back pain the next day.  After the second, I made sure to go running and that seemed to take care of the symptoms for the first night and next day.  I made the mistake of having a drink, thinking I was in the clear, but then I had random cold sweats and waves of pain in my head and back overnight with weird dreams about the pain and how it wouldn't go away until I got more shots.  Eventually, everything went away as if nothing ever happened.  B got his second shot last Friday and felt a bit of tiredness, but he went on a forty-five mile bike ride this morning -- the first group ride his bike gang has gone on since COVID started shutting things down -- and he seems fine now.  He's more worried a...

February Catchup

I finally got my cargobike on February 13th.  I called up our local bike shop Rubber Soul and talked details with the owner Rich.  From talking with him, he agreed that the Tern cargo bikes were the way to go.  I was leaning towards the Tern HSD since it is a smaller and less pricey, but Rich only had a Tern GSD S10, which he was willing to let me borrow for the weekend.  So, I did. B had been worried that a  cargobike was overkill, and I just needed an electric bike.  I had told Rich how much I was hauling and that I kept wearing out the brakes on my Specialized bike.  When the front brake line broke, B took it to Steven's bicycles where it took them three weeks to fix.  I have a brand new bike to ride, but it was really bad riding B's road bike in the meantime.  The 19" work computer is a really big drag to carry even in a backpack on a road bike.  I ended up falling on his bike a couple of times.  Rich had mentioned that the...

🥳 Happy New Year!

I think we ended 2020 well.  I spent New Years Eve working from home with Ro. He watched a lot of tv, played with his toys, and then we took a quick masked trip to the grocery store, meat shop, and ice cream shop. Everyone at the stores kept asking him if he was going to stay up for New Years. He looked at them like they were crazy and we had to talk about the staying up part when we got home because he had never done it before. Ro had been excited to choose the meats and so for dinner we had Santa Maria marinated chicken and hot dogs, and then I also baked crackers and baked brie with onions. I also made two boules of sourdough bread, but that was only because I already had the dough going in the fridge.  We didn't stay up late, but we were ready to play the next day. I've still been doing a lot of baking this year with lots of cinnamon rolls and biscuits.  Having a sourdough starter is like keeping another animal, but using the discards in food.  It has gotten me t...

Merry Christmas ✌️

I’m stuck in this spot since my cat-unit appears to broken.  Aren’t these supposed to hiss at you from the corner? It appears cold.  Christmas went pretty well. I got to work from home on Christmas Eve, and so Ro got to stay home with me.  I managed to get everything done in a few hours while Ro was watching Transformers on Netflix.  When I ran out of stuff to do, we started watching Olive the Other Reindeer on YouTube.  It’s a made-for-tv show by the creator of the Simpsons and was probably our favorite Christmas movie of the day.  Later, we had pizza on B’s grandpa’s front porch with B’s mom. Yes, it was cold. Ro decided he wasn’t hungry and spent most of the time moping since B’s mom brought out the wrapped presents but wouldn’t let him open them until after everyone was done eating. Then B’s grandpa brought out the presents from B’s aunt, too. Ro got a Launch and Defend remote control Batmobile, Lego set, and Batman lunchbox. B got a Bob Ross Chri...

December Update -- Glad this Day/Week/Month/Year is Over

Hi, there!  I didn't realize there was a comment since I hadn't checked this since I wrote that last post.  There will be often when something good or bad happens and I think of writing a post but rarely get around to it.  Maybe more frequent writing means more errors.  I'm just going to make sure this one gets posted so it'll probably be disjointed. The Sheriff's Office stuff was a mistranslated.  I've been working on taking my Agricultural Commissioner deputy exam lately.  I took only oral exam December 2019, this last July and another in November and failed all three.  I happened to schedule a Girl's Video Chat night when I found out my result this last Wednesday.  They were amused at my alcoholic coping skills -- don't worry, it was only one beer and one wine since my biology doesn't allow me to partake in any more than that.  I was really disappointed after this last one because I really thought I had it.  I have two more chan...

Virus Spider Ecology

Ro has an imaginary friend named Spidey who is a virus spider.  Well, actually, Spidey isn't imaginary. He's just as small as a virus, and so no one can actually see him.  He has two million brothers.  He doesn’t have sisters, but he has cousins that are girls. Virus spiders are born from an egg sac that actually is inside of the mother's body.  When Spidey and all of his brothers were born, their parents died to give all of their offspring their virus spider powers.  Spidey's dad owned a dojo that Ro trains at sometimes and Spidey took over the dojo when his dad died. Virus spider can move through people's bodies and eat all of the bad viruses and bacteria that make people sick.  They also eat trash and scraps of paper.  They are very civilized and prefer to eat on top of the package savers people get when they order pizzas in to go boxes. Virus spiders seem to be able to travel anywhere you need them in an instant.  Ro says that Spidey's family ...

Status Quo

I'm starting to realize I'm inclined to start each post with it's been awhile since the last post.  It's mainly because each time I get time to just sit, I've been knitting or trying to study for my deputy exam at the end of this month.  On the brighter sign, I can make lacy designs now with yarn overs. I failed my deputy exam at the end of last month.  I definitely knew a lot more than I did when I last attempted it in July 2019.  Usually the exam is done in front of a panel of three people.  This time, it was a phone call.  At one point, I froze while answering and the panel started to worry there was something wrong with the phone.  Luckily it was just me.  I caught up with a friend who was actually taking his exam at the exact same time and one person on his panel actually had the call dropped so he had to start completely over.  The exam is timed, and so you can guess how scary that might be.  I'll be much more ready (and third tim...
