Quick August Update

I know it’s been awhile.  Ro started school and going back to daycare this week. He came come yesterday with the sniffles, had a rough night sleeping, and then woke up this morning with a fever. B and Ro took tests this morning to make sure it isn’t something to quarantine, and I have a test scheduled for tomorrow. Both B and I stayed home and have been pretty much in quarantine just in case. We probably won’t be going back to work until Tuesday. Ro is okay so far. He had one fever that went to 102 but went down quickly with Tylenol.  At least it happened on a Friday and hopefully we’ll be back in business on Monday.  I love you and miss you.

Vacation -- Day 2

We woke up at a reasonable hour the next morning and decided to head to the Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park section of the Redwood National Park.  It was beautiful to drive into.   By Smith River We started off with breakfast at Hiouchi Cafe.  It looks like a simple Denny's or Chubby's type diner from the outside.  The portions are similar to those chains and the menu is similar, but the quality was really good.  It was super busy.  We had to wait for seats, and we still got there before an even bigger rush.   After breakfast, we dropped into the Hiouchi Visitor's Center to get an idea of where the best quick hike would be and to buy some souvenirs.  Ro wanted to buy a bunch of different books because the covers were really pretty.  I tried to explain that they were books that we could either get from the library or there was no way he could talk me into reading a field guide on snakes from cover to cover.  I think we ...

Vacation— Day 1

Originally, we were going to go straight to Mom’s house.  We found out that she had anticipated us in June and already arranged for another friend to stay with them from July 2-16. We had already claimed time for vacation from July 6-18. 🤷‍♀️ So, we decided to make a much slower family trip and just spend few of the last days at Mom’s on an air mattress instead.  We left around 7am on July 6th with a Starbucks breakfast. I tried to suggest to B that we could leave on the 5th after Ro’s Grandma Wanda’s 60th birthday on the 4th. B thought it would be a good idea to slowly pack since we picked up the rental around noon and we still needed to make sure the bikes would fit. We rented a really nice 2021 Nissan Rogue. I wish I had taken pictures of how we packed it.  We were able to fit Ro’s carseat in the middle with on seat folded down to accommodate my cargo bike upside down and B’s bike right-side up with all the tires taken off. We fit the luggage (B’s backpacking pa...

Is it really the last day in July?!

I’ve been meaning to write this for awhile now, but it’s been daunting because July was a pretty big deal. I got your email and received the package on Friday or Saturday when we got back (the 16th or 17th, I think).  I know, the delay is on me.  I will write more soon about our trip in the next post. I love you and miss you.

Late June Update

I had a few moments this morning, and so I thought I'd mention a few things I had missed in my last post or had happened since then.   I had forgotten to mention that Ro and I had a dentist appointment in Bakersfield during the second week of June.  This visit had been postponed from August 2020, then Februrary 2021, and May 2021.  We were going to go in February, but B thought the visit wasn't necessary during COVID, and he also needed the car for work to go to an election training.  I postponed to May since I knew that B had also made concessions since there were things (and still are things) that I didn't want us to do during a pandemic.  I then changed it again because I didn't want to ruin Ro's perfect attendance at school.   The neat thing about postponing to June was that everyone except the kids were vaccinated by then, and so Ro and I had a nice lunch on the patio (we had a whole section to ourselves) at the Social House with my friend Li...

Happy Fathers Day!

My Tern HSD only stayed at the bike shop for less than a week. They had originally quoted it would be between three days and two weeks. For a free tuneup covered by a warranty because I bought it from a local bike shop, I really have nothing to complain about. Unfortunately, it has been way too hot to bike Ro anywhere. We’ll be hanging out together on Wednesday while everyone else is at B’s great-aunt (or Grandpa Ron’s sister’s) funeral.  The weather will be a balmy 97 degrees, and so maybe we’ll make it out to a park or something at 6-7am. When you’re too impatient to wait for a car ride to pick up your favorite bike and you end up towing the backup you used to get to the store.  But we do have some news! Ro was casted as a Little Mouse in Fresno’s Nutcracker Ballet. I saw the auditions advertised on Instagram about a month ago. Last week on the day of the auditions, I brought them up again. B and I suspected that Ro would like dance classes, but we were also willing to let R...

Memorial Day Antics

I think this is the second Memorial Day where we didn’t have any plans, but that is a very good thing. Most of this weekend had been about relaxing, exercising, and catching up on a little cleaning   Roboy-mantis Ro and I went to ninja class on Saturday and then spent Saturday afternoon watching part of Aquaman at Sharon’s. Ro got a kick out of meeting Al because I let him as Al every question he had under the sun such as debating the purpose of rods and cones in human sight. They also got excited looking up stuff and printing out information.  B and I have been trying to exercise more. B is still doing his long rides out into the hills. I’ve picked up on doing karate exercises on youtube. I didn’t realize that my Garmin wasn’t taking into account any extra exercises that I did out of my recorded running and biking exercises. I’ve stopped recording my ebike rides because it doesn’t seem accurate unless I record it as “other” for our long rides to Old Town Clovis. I usually lik...
