Catching up/Ev Wedding

B's grandpa gave Ro a "disguise" set that is wonderful.

It's been a while. The main reason why is because I just haven't wanted to sit in front of a screen. Or I just want to play a cell phone game if I do. Maybe I'll just make it a more common practice to do on Sundays at the library after knitting group.

New set of animals, in case I haven't sent this yet

It's a lot easier to get my thoughts down with a full keyboard. My little Surface keyboard just doesn't have the same feel. B and I were talking about upgrading my desktop to connect back to the internet. Otherwise, Ro doesn't have a change to practice typing at home. B's uncle (dad's brother) bought Ro a refurbished iPad for Christmas. We bought a cheap bluetooth keyboard to go with it, but Ro noticed it lags, which makes playing the fast typing games online frustrating.

Current goals:
> Stop biting nails.
> Stop looking at social media/new so much. Stare at walls instead.
> Exercise 30 min/day.*
> Try to keep eating out only three times a week

*I did an 8-week online weight loss class through Kaiser from late Jan to early March. The funniest part was that everyone else was older and having trouble logging in through Zoom. I also got frustrated by the same people trying to teach the class instead of the instructor (My thoughts: Why are you here if you already know what to do?) By the end of the class, those people were endearing and I had an idea of how to get back on track. I switched to diet cola, started exercising with YouTube videos every day, and started logging my food. I've lost 8 lbs since then. I'm still heavier than peak pregnancy, but I guess I have a system now. I also seem to be getting sicker more often. Em thinks it might be more of a seasonal thing. I'm blaming exercise.

Work is still going well. I passed my probation and my boss likes my work ethic. It also helps that I'm more social and appear more motivated than the other two guys. I still do the thing where I sign up for more than I really have time for and get overwhelmed, but then I can't quit anything so it all goes on my resume as a success. Lately that's looked like working as an agenda Planner for an internal statewide renewable energy workshop and trying to get projects off the ground while trying to not let long-term compliance fall to the wayside.

Ev's wedding was nice and so is her husband's family. There were maybe 40 people and mostly the groom's family. His parents are still together so he had grandparents from both his mom's and dad's side of the family. His dad is half Korean and half white and has two sisters. His two cousins and younger sister also went. For Ev, Mom, Dennis, B, and Ro went. Ro really likes Ev's new husband. I think it's because he listens to everything Ro says with rapt attention and says yes everytime Ro asks to play.

B and I didn't really have much to say or much in common with Ev's husband or his cousins because they're so young. Her husband is seven years younger than her and he is the oldest in that generation so he was the first of the four to get married. I sat near his sister and we had control over the wedding playlist. Thanks to that, there was a lot of Phineas and Ferb soundtrack music and Led Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song." They were really awkward dancing to their own "first dance" music and were more natural when we played the Hannah Montana theme song towards the end. I realized though that there was a lot of generational gap stuff because I'm sure I'm at least ten years older than the groom's sister.

Speeches were nice but kind of awkward. Mom and Ro were the only ones who gave speeches for our group and Mom spent the whole time crying. I didn't hear what Ro said at all but maybe the videographer picked it up. The groom's family said all kinds of stuff with crying.

Highlights since Christmas 2024:
> I went with Mom to a cousin's wedding in M'sia (Ismail's middle kid). There was apparently some family drama going on, but it was fun. We flew in to Taipei on standby, bought tickets to KL, bought tickets to Alor Setar, bought tickets to KL, bought tickets to Singapore, and left from Singapore. I also almost ended up living at the Singapore airport due to issues with boarding passes.

Cool masjid in Singapore's Arab Quarter

Cool Chinese New Year display at the Taipei airport

>B, Ro, and I went to Guadalajara in early February. We stayed at a nice hotel in Centro Historico that Ro really liked hanging out and watching shows dubbed in Spanish at. He hated translating for us the whole time because he just wanted to be the kid. My Spanish has definitely degraded since I stopped working for the Ag Department. We did a charro lasso lesson and horseback riding, Ro experienced his first tasting menu, and we did a lot of birding.

Ro's first tasting menu. This mushroom soup was his favorite.

A very colorful mutmut that we saw at Bosque Colomo.

I hope things are going well for you. We love you and miss you.

March Update

B and I got our second Pfizer shots recently.  It's hard to tell if we're having side effects or psychosomatic symptoms.  After my first shot, I had some shortness of breath overnight, I was tired, I had bad allergies, my arm was super sore and I had weird upper back pain the next day.  After the second, I made sure to go running and that seemed to take care of the symptoms for the first night and next day.  I made the mistake of having a drink, thinking I was in the clear, but then I had random cold sweats and waves of pain in my head and back overnight with weird dreams about the pain and how it wouldn't go away until I got more shots.  Eventually, everything went away as if nothing ever happened.  B got his second shot last Friday and felt a bit of tiredness, but he went on a forty-five mile bike ride this morning -- the first group ride his bike gang has gone on since COVID started shutting things down -- and he seems fine now.  He's more worried a...

I hope you’ve had a Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas! Ours was pretty good.  Quick backtrack to Thanksgiving: We just did a small early dinner in Gramma Wanda’s backyard. It was warn and we ended up taking jackets off as well as ate inside. Torstein came with us to hang out with Sophie to be weirdo’s together. Ro also lost both of his front teeth and another bottom tooth that week. On a few Saturdays around that time, Ro went to a sort of Nasa coding camp at Fresno State since we had a break from golf. He ended being sick for two out of the three sessions, but he enjoyed the content. I also got a free community library card at the Fresno State library (job perk) and spent a lot of time knitting at Collect Coffee. Ro said he didn’t like spending a lot of time away from home though. He’s registered for baseball in spring, will be doing golf all year, and planning on tennis in summer (no refunds on that one for rain though the other two are flexible/flat rate).  Ro had a winter show at his school. The cafeteri...

May Update

It's June 1st! So it's been awhile. I feel like this month has passed by, but I don't remember what we did. I think I mentioned Bookfest 2025 in my last post so I'll look through my calendar and figure out what I did since then.  The weather has been pretty decent all month up until last week after Memorial Day weekend. I set up a card table in the garage one day to be able to work from home and let Ro play with his remote control batmobile and skateboard across the street. Tor was out with us and mostly stuck around.    Work from home setup complete with desk muppet B and Ro have been checking out churches because Ro has starting wondering what religions are out there. B hasn't been making me go to the Christian ones (or any of them really...because I don't want to). Ro seems to have this idea that the Christian ones don't have as much of an emphasis of the "Do this or you'll go to Hell" aspect. He's in for a rude awakening. Mom has plans...
